Conclusion
From the research that I've gathered, I learned that reportage illustrations are not only made on-site but there are many ways of approaching this practice online as well. After looking at works of Katie Chappell, Veronica Lawlor, Jenny Soep, Laura Fitton and Frits Ahlefeldt, I realised how uniquely illustrations can be presented; even when the drawings are directly drawn from observations and the artists have that responsibility of portraying that reality, they still find a way of showing their style and that connection between them and their chosen subject matter. I believe reportage illustration is a really expressive form of drawing with a hugely diverse community of artists that is focused around the idea of telling stories and/or sharing moments from events in a visually engaging way. Whether it be intentionally or unintentionally, drawing has a way of building narrative and sometimes that narrative comes from a place or an event that the artist remembers and chooses to revisit in order to create a reportage illustration.
